Critical Preparation Steps

All athletes competing in Colorado High School athletic activities are required to have a physical.  The physical can be performed by your family physician or at any of the special clinics established to meet this requirement.  A physical is good for twelve months and covers participation in any and all sports at Coronado.  So, a physical conducted in July 2008 is good for the entire 2008 - 2009 school year.  So...get that physical early and get it out of the way.

Several documents are required by District Eleven and the Coronado Athletic Director's office before an athlete can participate in organized practices.  You can find these forms/documents on the District 11 website at http://www.d11.org/doi/athletics  Then click on the "forms tab".  Or, you can simply head over to the Coronado Business Office (open from 8:00 - 3:00, weekdays) and pick up the required forms.

Bring the Yellow form along with you to the doctor's office when you go for your physical.  The doctor will fill in the applicable information and sign the form.  Have your parents fill out and sign the Blue Form (Emergency Contacts and Treatment Information).  Take both of these completed forms to the Coronado Business Office, along with your $65 activity fee and prior to your first day of practice.  The office personnel will staple a receipt to the Blue form.  Take the Blue form to one of the Cross Country coaches.  This serves as proof to the coaching staff that the necessary steps have been taken and, you will be immediately added to the roster.

A Salmon (colored) form has been required in the past.  This form is used to indicate that the Athletic Handbook has been read.  Don't be surprised if this form is required again for the 2008-2009 school year.

Our first competition is a fun one in Denver, on the afternoon of August 29th.  All athletes are required to have participated in at least nine practice prior to competing.  We want everyone to be physically prepared and eligible to compete in this Invitational.  Therefore, it's imperative that your documentation has been addressed in a timely fashion.

Finally, it's not required that you report to the first practice in shape... but it is encouraged.  Experience has shown that it is sooo much easier on you to have some training under your belt before jumping into this daily regimen.  So, start soon.  It doesn't have to be all that much, start out easy and slow and increase it weekly.  For incoming freshmen, a good objective is to get in three or four weeks of running, with perhaps three or four runs per week.  Feel free to call one of the coach for advice if you want to do more.  Or, better yet, you're always welcome to join one of our workout sessions (see Summer Workouts for more information).
